Cycle of Life
Police let a woman in Carmarthen, Wales, go with a warning after they found her riding her bicycle at 70 kph in a 50 kph zone. Ros Jones, a finalist in a local “slimmer of the year” competition, explained, “I had no idea I was going so fast. I have been cycling to lose weight and I suppose as I got fitter my speed has crept up.” Meanwhile, Anthony Adams, 24, is refusing to pay a 120-pound (US$190) fine after police in Cambridge, England, stopped him for pedaling “furiously” on his bicycle in the city center at midnight. “He did in a public place drive or ride furiously to the annoyance, obstruction or danger of any resident or passenger,” a magistrate found. Adams says he is in training for an attempt to break the record for cycling the longest distance in one hour. (AFP, 2) ...“It is a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury / Signifying nothing.” —Shakespeare (Macbeth, act 5).
