Flying High
One of the stars of a recent air show in India featuring displays from manufacturers in 17 countries was home made. Engineer Raj Ganapati, 33, says his two-seat Maiden “is not a plane made from kits sold at toy stores. I have tooled it from scratch.” Maiden can cruise at up to 10,000 feet, has a range of 800 kilometers (495 miles), and cost less than one million rupees (US$23,800). However, Ganapati had to bring his creation to the air show on a truck because he cannot fly it. “I was too busy during the last two years when I was building it to take flying lessons for a pilot’s license,” he explained.
